About the HIDTA Program

The Midwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area was established in December 1996 as one of 28 such designated regions nationwide. The program encompasses six mid-western states: Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota, representing one of the country's largest HIDTA regions.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol participated actively in the program's planning, formation, and implementation. The Criminal Investigation Bureau's Division of Drug and Crime Control maintains ongoing involvement across all HIDTA initiatives, with the superintendent serving on the Midwest HIDTA Executive Board and the division director contributing to the Missouri Advisory Committee.
