Are you looking for a challenging career, duties that are never routine, and competitive pay and benefits? The Accelerated Academy is a 15-week program for candidates who already hold law enforcement certification and experience.
Benefits of the Accelerated Route
Stay where you are
Successful in-state applicants are not required to relocate. Out-of-state applicants know their assignment before entering training.
Shorter training
15 weeks at the Academy rather than the traditional 25-week program.
Higher starting salary
Accelerated recruits earn more during training than those in the traditional academy class.
College credit
Recruits are eligible for 46 college credit hours on graduation.
Who Is Eligible
In addition to the Patrol's standard trooper requirements, accelerated applicants must meet the following.
1
Missouri applicants
Hold an active Missouri Class A POST license or equivalent in good standing, or an active Class B POST license in good standing that is eligible for upgrade.
2
Out-of-state and military applicants
Basic training and experience must meet the requirements to obtain a Missouri Class A license through the Veteran Peace Officers application process, as determined by POST. The Class A license must be obtained before the conditional offer phase.
3
Two years' service
At least two consecutive years, as at the start of academy training, as a full-time Missouri POST-commissioned police officer, military police officer, or out-of-state police officer in a traffic, patrol, or investigations capacity.
The Role
Duties of a Trooper
Troopers promote safety and enforce traffic laws for the motoring public, assist motorists, and investigate highway crashes and other roadway emergencies. They also assist local law enforcement on request, investigate crimes, and enforce criminal law. The work is carried out in all weather, often involves driving at speed, and means being subject to call at any time on schedules that change regularly.
After two to three years of service, opportunities open up in areas such as Aircraft, Drug and Crime Control, K-9, Motorcycle, and SWAT as vacancies arise.
Duties of a Marine Trooper
The Patrol is home to the Water Patrol Division and the marine troopers who carry out its mission. Once trained as a trooper, you may be assigned directly into a marine trooper position, enforcing boating and criminal law on Missouri's waterways and serving those who use them.
Marine troopers receive a further four weeks of Academy training and at least forty days of field training under a veteran marine trooper.
Preparing and Applying
Accelerated candidates complete the same selection process, requirements, and testing as traditional recruits.
