The Missouri State Highway Patrol manages several categories of public records.
Public Records
Incident, investigative, and arrest reports, radio tapes, and logs.
Patrol Records
Traffic crash reports, reconstruction reports, and photographs.
Water Patrol
Boating crash reports, citations, and arrest and drowning reports.
Background Checks
Criminal history background checks are handled by the Criminal Justice Information Services Division.
How to Submit a Request
Processing and Payment
Standard processing time is 20 to 30 business days. Archived reports and complex cases may require extended processing.
Payment is accepted by personal check, money order, cashier's check, business check, or credit card.
About the Custodian of Records
The Patrol Records Division houses the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Custodian of Records, who is responsible for the dissemination of records outside the agency within the guidelines set forth by the Missouri Sunshine Law (Chapter 610, Missouri Revised Statutes). The Custodian of Records is Lieutenant Gerard “Jerry” Callahan.
