High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area

Missouri's role in the Midwest HIDTA, one of the largest such regions in the country.

About the Program

The Midwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) was established in December of 1996. It is one of twenty-eight High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTAs) in the United States. The Midwestern states of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota are included in the Midwest HIDTA, making it one of the largest HIDTAs in the country.

The Patrol's Role

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was active in planning, formation, and implementation of the HIDTA program in the Midwest and Missouri. The Criminal Investigation Bureau's Division of Drug and Crime Control continues to be active in all facets of the Midwest HIDTA programs.

The superintendent represents the state of Missouri on the Midwest HIDTA Executive Board, and the Director of the Division of Drug and Crime Control serves on the Missouri Advisory Committee.
