Driver Examination

The Patrol administers Missouri’s written and driving skills tests. Examination stations operate in every county, and CDL testing sites are located within each troop.

About Driver Examination

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Driver Examination section provides an effective program of driver testing to ensure Missouri licensed drivers have a level of competency consistent with safe driving habits and practices, as well as skills and knowledge of Missouri laws relating to traffic safety.

We administer the written and driving exams to individuals qualifying for a Missouri Instruction Permit; Class F Operator License; Class E Chauffeur License; motorcycle license; and Commercial Driver Licenses (CDL).

Examination stations are provided in each county of the state and CDL sites are located within each troop of the Highway Patrol.

Before You Test

Before arriving at an examination station, determine the documentation you need in order to test, and the hours of operation for that location.

Appointments

Appointments are not necessary for the driving skills portion of a non-CDL license. They are necessary for a Commercial Driver License (CDL) driving skills test.

Arrive Early

Arriving before closing time does not guarantee that a written or driving skills test will be given to you.

Test Availability

Written and driving skills tests are given based upon staff availability and the volume of test applicants.

Testing in More Languages

As part of this upgrade, the Patrol will now offer the Class F written test in a total of 20 languages, which includes a newly created sign language video version of the test made possible by the Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Sign language interpretation is arranged by the respective Driver Examination office.
