Pre-Employment Testing
Phase 1: Written Examination
The test comprises 50 questions (multiple-choice and true-false) covering five competency areas: Ability to Follow Direction, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics, Spelling, and Attention to Detail. No time limit applies.
Phase 2: Oral Interview
Structured interviews evaluate oral communication skills and responses across predetermined dimensions.
Phase 3: Conditional Offer
Employment offers depend on budget constraints, vacant positions, and interview performance.
Phase 4: Polygraph Examination
The polygraph examination is administered by Patrol polygraphists and covers employment history, traffic records, financial history, criminal convictions, and honesty.
Phase 5: Background Investigation
Uniformed Patrol members conduct extensive investigations. Required documentation includes certified birth certificate, valid driver's license, military discharge papers (if applicable), high school diploma or GED, college credentials, and POST certificate.
Phase 6: Medical, Psychological, and Drug Screening
- Medical examination by contracted physicians
- Drug screening via urine sample
- Psychological evaluation by a clinical psychologist
Final Offer
Successful candidates receive employment contracts requiring a service commitment.
