About the Internship Program
The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Student Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate students with practical work experience in criminal justice, public administration, information technology, and other fields related to law enforcement.
Internships offer students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop professional skills, and learn about career opportunities with the Patrol.
Eligibility Requirements
• Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university
• Must be in good academic standing
• Must be a United States citizen
• Must pass a background check
• Must have a valid driver license
Areas of Assignment
Interns may be assigned to various divisions and units based on their field of study and the Patrol's needs:
• Criminal Investigation: Assist with investigative support and research
• Crime Laboratory: Observe and assist with forensic analysis
• Information Technology: Support technology projects and systems
• Public Information and Education: Assist with community outreach and education programs
• Administrative Services: Support human resources, accounting, and procurement operations
• Criminal Justice Information Services: Assist with records management and data analysis
Program Details
• Internships are typically unpaid but may qualify for academic credit
• Duration varies based on academic requirements and the Patrol's needs
• Internships are available year-round (fall, spring, and summer semesters)
• Most internships are based at General Headquarters in Jefferson City
• Work schedules are flexible to accommodate class schedules
